First-Tree is an open-source project. We want this site to be useful to humans and to the agents you're building. We also want it to be honest about what we collect. This page describes that in plain language.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers first-tree.ai and its
subdomains, including the documentation site. It does NOT cover
the open-source first-tree software itself, which
runs entirely on your own machine and does not phone home.
2. What we collect
When you visit this site, we collect anonymous analytics through Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland only after you accept cookies in the banner:
- Pages you visit and time spent on each
- Approximate geographic region (country / city — derived from an anonymized IP address, which we never store)
- Device type, browser, screen size
- Referring source (e.g. Google search, a link from another site)
We do not collect: your name, email, IP address, precise location, or any data that identifies you personally — unless you explicitly send us a message (e.g. by emailing or opening a GitHub issue).
3. Legal basis
In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland we process analytics data on the basis of your consent (GDPR / UK GDPR): analytics cookies are disabled by default there, the cookie banner asks first, and they only run after you click "Accept". Everywhere else we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used: anonymized analytics run by default, no banner interrupts you, and you can opt out at any time with the control below. Your choice is remembered and honored worldwide.
4. Cookies and storage
This site uses two kinds of browser storage:

_ga+_ga_*(cookies, set by Google Analytics) — in the EEA/UK/Switzerland only after you accept; elsewhere by default until you decline. Used to distinguish unique sessions. Anonymized. Retained for 14 months. -
ft_consent(localStorage, set by us) — remembers your accept/decline choice so we don't show the banner on every page. Strictly necessary; never used for tracking.
5. Third parties
We use the following third-party services to run this site:
- Google Analytics 4 (analytics) — with IP anonymization and ad-personalization disabled. Google's Privacy Policy.
- Vercel (hosting) — serves the static files. Sees standard HTTP request logs (IP, user agent) but we do not access them. Vercel's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare (DNS) — for the
first-tree.aidomain. Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. - Google Fonts (typography) — loaded from
fonts.googleapis.com. Google's Privacy Policy.
6. What we do not do
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not track you across other websites.
- We do not use social-media tracking pixels.
- We do not build user profiles.
7. Data retention
GA4 analytics data is retained for 14 months, the shortest period GA4 allows. After that it's automatically deleted by Google.
8. Your rights
If you're in the EU, EEA, UK, or California, you have the right to:
- Know what data we hold about you (answer: only the anonymized, aggregated metrics described above — we can't link any of it back to a specific person).
- Opt out or withdraw consent at any time with the analytics control in section 3 above.
- Ask Google to delete your analytics data — instructions here.
9. Children
First-Tree is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes (e.g. adding a new analytics provider) will reset the consent banner so you can re-choose.
